Firefighters were eyeing the weather as the Caldor Fire continued to rip through vegetation Sunday on its way to charring 100,000 acres, while the Dixie Fire to the northwest brought more evacuations.

Authorities also announced the shut-down of all the national forests in Northern California to be closed late Sunday through Labor Day because of fire danger. Meanwhile, residents in South Lake Tahoe were plagued by hazardous air conditions.
