As firefighters continue to battle the massive Dixie fire, PG&E has warned that it could preemptively shut down power to 48,000 customers in more than a dozen Northern California counties — including three in the Bay Area — in advance of adverse weather conditions that could increase the risk of fires this week.
The decision “occurs in response to severe weather,” the utility said on its web site. “Power is turned off to prevent wildfire. We attempt to notify affected customers by phone, text or email.”
