SAN JOSE –  A young girl died Saturday afternoon after she lost control of her bicycle and was thrown into a concrete wall.

The girl was riding her bike down a hill around 3 p.m. on Valroy Drive, lost control and hit a curb on Curie Drive in the La Colina neighborhood, police said. The rider was thrown from her bike and struck a concrete retaining wall head-on. Police say she was not wearing a helmet.
