Fears of dry lightning that threatened to add to dangerous fire conditions throughout the region were considerably smaller Monday morning after the monsoonal system that created the threat stayed away from land, National Weather Service forecasters said.

A red-flag warning that was expected to remain in place through Monday instead was canceled.
