It’s a scenario that is well known and often repeated by local National Weather Service forecasters: A high-pressure area is building and it will begin to drive up temperatures in the Bay Area.

This time, though, the high pressure is slightly different, and that will spare much of the region from sizzling during a four-day stretch beginning Thursday that will cook the far inland areas of Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
