E3 got an unofficial kick off with the Summer Game Fest celebration that was streamed for video games fans. Gamers saw new footage of upcoming titles such as “Back 4 Blood” and “Endless Dungeon,” but the main reason that many tuned in was to see gameplay footage of the highly anticipated action role-playing game “Elden Ring.”
Developed by “Dark Souls” creator Hidetaka Miyazaki in collaboration with “Game of Thrones” author “George R.R. Martin, the project has serious heft behind it. The game has a visual style that will remind players of Miyazaki’s past works, but “Elden Ring” is more ambitious as players venture through a seamless landscape with weather and time-of-day progression, according to Bandai Namco. Officially on company’s info sheet, it’s labeled as a single-player game but I expect that FromSoftware will introduce online components similar to what players found “Dark Souls.” Namely, players can call on friends to help them venture through parts of the world and take difficult opponents such as bosses.
