SAN JOSE — A new housing tower is slated to sprout about a block from a transit-oriented neighborhood Google is developing in downtown San Jose on a block that suddenly is a hotbed for residential highrises.

The latest proposal for the residential highrise at 543 Lorraine Ave. in San Jose envisions a tower that would be considerably higher than a project that was proposed on the same site in 2017.
