SAN JOSE — A 16-year-old San Jose boy has been charged with murder after authorities say he sold a fentanyl-laced pill to a 12-year-old San Jose girl who died shortly after consuming it in late 2020, making her the county’s youngest overdose victim that year.
The boy, whose name is being publicly withheld because he is a minor, was arrested Tuesday by San Jose police. The murder charge filed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is based on the premise that he had reason to believe that the kind of pill he sold — which is suspected in another South Bay overdose being prosecuted as a murder — contained fentanyl and posed a deadly risk.
