As Santa Clara moves forward with its plan to revitalize downtown, a group of residents wants the city to consider moving city hall back downtown in hopes of bolstering foot traffic and encouraging investors to redevelop the area.

The once-bustling heart of the city with landmarks like the Santa Clara Theater — and its dazzling marquee sign — was razed to the ground in the 1960s as part of an urban renewal effort. But after a wrecking ball demolished the eight-block city core, much of the land remained undeveloped for years.
