Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the omicron variant, San Jose has become the first city in California to require that its employees have a booster shot.

City leaders have also adopted a new order requiring that visitors of large, indoor events at public facilities like the SAP Center and San Jose Convention Center show proof of a booster — or submit a negative COVID-19 test — before they enter.
