After a month-long dry spell and some drizzle earlier this week, an atmospheric river is expected to soak the Bay Area in 1 to 3 inches of rain in some areas this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A smattering of showers on Monday and Wednesday drizzled the region in a couple hundredths of an inch of rain.
