Going into Monday’s announcement for the 2020 Academy Award nominations, critics considered Jennifer Lopez to be a sure thing to get consideration for best supporting actress. While the superstar multi-hyphenate was expected to ultimately lose the Oscar to Laura Dern, she still won over fans and critics alike for her role as Ramona, the savvy but compassionate stripper in “Hustlers.”

But Lopez was absent from the list of nominees — a snub widely noted by critics and people on Twitter. Meanwhile, other surprise names turned up: Kathy Bates, the sole nominee from “Richard Jewell”: Florence Pugh for “Little Women”; and Scarlett Johansson for “Jojo Rabbit.”
