Today we look at the record-setting mission and the plan for its low-cost global broadband network. > In November 2018, SpaceX received Federal Communications Commission approval to build a network of 4,425 low Earth orbit communication satellites. As of last week, 182 of the satellites have been put in space. SpaceX CEO and founder Elon Musk said that at least 400 will be needed for minimal coverage, and the network could be available for consumers this year. SpaceX is looking into expanding the network to as many as 12,000 satellites.
