MONTEREY — Showers swept into the Bay Area on Monday night, and a second, more powerful system is slated to follow later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The first system is expected to deliver up to half an inch of rain to the North Bay mountains and less than a tenth of an inch elsewhere, the weather service said in a briefing Monday.
