The Golden Gate Bridge. The Crookedest street. Coit Tower. A lot of people have left their hearts in this city famed for its gorgeous views, iconic architecture, trendsetting lifestyles and endless hills. Of course the cost of living is so high it’s actually steeper than the streets of San Francisco. That doesn’t seem like the ideal setting for being single, which means you have to go solo on paying the bills.
And yet the city by the Bay was named one of the Best Places to Live in the U.S. for Singles in 2019, in a U.S. News and World Report study. Ranked #16 out of 125 big cities, San Francisco was noted for its large share of singles in the population, almost 52 percent. The high cost of living in this world famous city was also noted. Residents pay almost a third of their income for housing expenses, the report notes, but the median salary is also higher than average. High incomes are part of the reason this is a hotspot for the uncoupled.
