As anyone who’s ever looked for a home around here knows all too well, Bay Area real estate has long been a gold mine for those who own property and in recent years the prices in this tech-driven region has become more and more stratospheric.

A new study from the real estate website PropertyShark suggests that the Bay Area may be the single most expensive place in the country, containing 55 of the 125 most expensive ZIP codes on the much-watched annual list. That’s almost half of the top markets in the U.S.  According to the report, the region also has some of the highest rents in the country, with median one-bedroom rent in San Francisco rising to $3,700 a month earlier this year, which has helped fueled the current housing crisis.
