OAKLAND – Caltrans is poised to close the Caldecott Tunnel in the East Bay and the Tom Lantos Tunnels on the San Mateo County coast amid a “planned public safety power shutoff.”

The announcement came just hours before Pacific Gas & Electric Co. was slated to begin switching off power to nearly 800,000 customers, including 278,000 in the Bay Area.
