AMERICAN CANYON — Fire crews are at the scene of a fast-growing vegetation fire east of the city and just west of Interstate 80 that has burned more than 500 acres, authorities said Sunday.

By 8:20 a.m. Monday, the fire had spread to 562 acres and was 60 percent contained, officials said.
