While most of the attention regarding Apple this week will be upon its release of the iPhone 11 line of smartphones on Friday, the company’s top financial officer and other officials will be putting their focus on fighting a multi-billion-dollar back tax bill imposed upon Apple by the European Union three years ago.
Apple Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri is reportedly leading a team of Apple officers over to Luxembourg to fight a $14.4 billion bill the EU slapped upon Apple in 2016 regarding back taxes on business done in Ireland. According to a report from Reuters, the six-member team of Apple officials will use the two-day hearing to argue that the company acted within the boundaries of Irish law regarding taxes it paid on its operations within Ireland.
