The electric carmaker on Friday raised the prices on its vehicles in China, while almost simultaneously getting a reprieve on tariffs on imported U.S. autos that are set to go into back into effect in December. In April, China suspended the tariff increase as a gesture of goodwill during the ongoing trade negotiations with the U.S.

China’s Ministry of Industry said it would exempt electric cars from the purchase tax it intends to impose on imported cars beginning Dec. 15–a move that will raise tariffs to 40% from 15% on imported vehicles. That increase is set to take effect the same day that U.S. President Donald Trump intends to raise tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese goods that are imported into the United States.
