Why robots won’t kill the Bay Area’s job growth: report

Automation could eliminate 907,000 Bay Area jobs by 2030, part of a nationwide trend that will hit particularly hard with low-skilled workers, people without college degrees and those at the beginning and end of their careers.

Despite that, according to a new report about the future of labor from the McKinsey Global Institute, job displacement driven by artificial intelligence won’t lead to mass unemployment. In fact, McKinsey researchers expect the booming Bay Area to keep generating significant economic gains between now and 2030, including some of the biggest job gains in the state.
