The Justice Department has opened an antitrust review of tech giants, it finally confirmed Tuesday. Although the government did not name names, those “market-leading online platforms” in search, social media and retail are widely understood to be Apple, Google, Facebook and Amazon.

Shares of the companies, all based in Silicon Valley except Amazon, fell in after-hours trading.
