SACRAMENTO — Firing back at the Trump Administration, state officials Tuesday filed a lawsuit against the federal government, alleging that its take-back of nearly $1 billion in federal money for California’s high-speed rail system was political retribution for the state’s opposition to Trump’s proposed border wall.

The lawsuit cited a tweet from February in which Trump blasted California for wasting billions of dollars on a project “with no hope of completion.” A minute later, according to the suit, Trump tweeted the “failed Fast Train project in California … is hundreds of times more expensive than the desperately needed Wall.”
