SAN JOSE — Santa Clara County will join a small but growing number of California counties making sweeping changes to local elections, after supervisors voted Tuesday to ditch the traditional neighborhood polling place in 2020 for fewer voting centers that will be larger, allow for early voting and offer more services.

The Board of Supervisors approved the change unanimously and with little fanfare, toward the end of nine-hour meeting.
