A wildfire that started Wednesday afternoon in the mountains north of Los Angeles grew quickly to more than 10,000 acres, forcing the evacuation of the community of Lake Hughes.

The Lake Fire was reported at 3:40 p.m. off Lake Hughes Road in Prospect Canyon, north of Castaic Lake, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Its cause is under investigation.
