SAN JOSE — A single unit in the Santa Clara County Main Jail has seen over a dozen COVID-19 infections over the past two weeks, prompting inmate families and advocates to hound authorities to stem an outbreak that has already delayed a murder trial because its defendants are either sick or quarantined.

The high-security 5B module in the North San Jose facility has recorded 13 cases in July, according to data from the sheriff’s office, which operates the county jails. But there were indications Thursday that total might rise after more test results come back.
