SANTA CLARA – The city of Santa Clara says it is opening an investigation into a former police captain accused of cyberstalking a Massachusetts couple who published an online newsletter viewed as critical of eBay Inc., his most recent employer.

In a news release, the city said it has no reports that indicate Brian Gilbert engaged in similar behavior while he was working for the city, but “our investigation is being done to ensure that we maintain the public’s trust.”
