San Mateo County will allow churches and in-store retail to reopen with precautions starting Monday, officials said, and will also loosen restrictions to county beaches.

The county’s new order pushes ahead of the rest of the region in its reopening timeline and falls into line with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s guidance. In a statement, Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow said that the order tries to strike a balance between the spread of coronavirus and economic fallout from the pandemic.
