Although I don’t agree with the president’s executive order to revise or repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, I do agree that it’s time for a national conversation on the role and power of social media.
The Communications Decency Act of 1996, which was passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton, would have banned internet content deemed “harmful to minors.” I was one of many voices against the act, because it affected adults as well as children and because it’s almost impossible to agree on the definition of “harmful.”
