LOS ALTOS — A man was shot and killed in a Los Altos backyard on Monday, police said, marking the town’s first homicide in more than 25 years.

Los Altos police Sgt. Steve Spillman said Tuesday that the victim did not live at the house but could not release further information about his reason for being there. The man’s name, age and hometown also were being withheld pending his formal identification by the coroner’s office.
