Five Bay Area counties saw a rise in fatalities from the deadly coronavirus, and San Francisco saw a single-day high in the number of newly confirmed cases Tuesday, health officials said.

Five more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in San Mateo County; four in Santa Clara County; three in Alameda County and San Francisco; and one in Contra Costa County. Health officials in each county reported the new deaths in their daily updates Tuesday, with data recorded through Monday night.
