SAN JOSE — The number of planned job cuts in the Bay Area have quadrupled in less than a month, a grim reminder of the economic destruction unleashed by the coronavirus, according to an analysis of official state documents.

A host of high-profile merchants that include several premium outlet malls and H&M are among the latest Bay Area businesses forced to undertake wrenching layoffs as the coronavirus spreads. Upstart companies such as Eventbrite and WeWork also have been forced to undertake layoffs due to the deadly bug’s domino effects.
