California on Thursday reached more grim milestones in the continuing coronavirus pandemic with more than 2,000 confirmed deaths and more than 50,000 confirmed cases, according to data complied by this news organization.

The state recorded 89 new deaths, bringing the total to 2,032. Fifty-five of them were reported in Los Angeles County. But the Bay Area was not spared – four deaths were logged in Santa Clara County, three in Alameda County, two in Contra Costa County and two in San Francisco.
