California coronavirus cases top 45,000, Los Angeles passes 20,000 — but pace has slowed

The number of reported COVID-19 cases in California passed 45,000 Monday, with Los Angeles County reaching a grim milestone of more than 20,000 cases, but overall the pace of new cases continues to slow since last week.
There were 45,146 reported coronaviruses cases in the state, with Los Angeles County accounting for 20,417 of those cases, or 45 percent, according to data compiled by this news organization. There were 1,525 new cases statewide reported Monday, 889 of which were in Los Angeles County, or 58 percent.
