For a second consecutive day, California’s number of COVID-19 cases increased by fewer than 1,000 on Monday, as the total number of positive tests for the deadly respiratory illness climbed near 25,000.
For nearly two weeks, since the day it reported its 7,000th case, the state had experienced growth of at least 1,000 new cases each day. Until Sunday, when its growth rate fell from 6-8% to around 4%. That downturn was replicated Monday, as health officials reported 963 new cases, bringing its total to 24,255.
