California Gov. Gavin Newsom extended a stay-at-home order to the whole state in response to the coronavirus outbreak, days after the Bay Area had been placed under the order. The statewide order will take affect at midnight.
For those in the Bay Area, that doesn’t represent a significant change, but only about half of the state’s population was previously under the order, according to Newsom. Now all 40 million Californians will be expected to stay at home unless they’re performing an essential duty.
