SAN JOSE — Despite what some might have seen during the Bay Area’s first day under a sweeping stay-at-home order to limit the spread of COVID-19, authorities say gun shops are not an “essential’ provider of goods or services.

As residents navigated the labyrinthine exemptions for who could be out and which businesses could stay open, gun dealers throughout the region leaned toward the latter, according to many reports.
