Seven Bay Area county health officers and school officials on Wednesday announced they are extending school closures until May 1 in an effort to slow the spread of novel coronavirus.
The announcement comes after the same Bay Area jurisdictions — Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and the city of Berkeley — on March 16 announced shelter-in-place orders that have wreaked havoc on local economies and left parents with few resources to keep their children educated as schools close down.
