PLEASANTON — Safeway on Monday announced it had launched a mass hiring effort amid the panic shopping unleashed by the Coronavirus crisis, saying it wants to hire thousands in Northern California.

The supermarket giant said it wants to hire both in-store and delivery workers, the company said.
