San Mateo County health officer Dr. Scott Morrow cited “individual and collective responsibility” in the county’s announcement that it would not join other Bay Area jurisdictions in imposing new coronavirus stay-home orders.
On Friday, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and Marin counties as well as the City of Berkeley announced new restrictions taking effect in the next few days. Sunday in most counties, on Monday in Alameda County and Berkeley, and Tuesday in Marin. The limitations, which include shutting down outdoor restaurant dining and closing hair salons and barbershops, are to remain in place until January 4. The order speeds up the restrictions that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday would be imposed in regions where hospital intensive care unit capacity fell below 15%.
