For months now, public health officials have drummed into our heads that outdoors is safer than indoors for avoiding the coronavirus.
But California’s new stay-home order, already in effect in much of the Bay Area and the southern half of the state, closes playgrounds, overnight campgrounds and outdoor dining at restaurants while still letting you shop inside stores and malls. And while some outdoor activity is forbidden, other endeavors — hiking, exercising on the patio of your gym or sunbathing at the beach — are a-OK.
