MILPITAS — A rare opportunity to take advantage of an influx of state funds to quickly and permanently house a large number of homeless people in Silicon Valley could be slipping away, as Milpitas leaders push back against Santa Clara County’s plans to convert a hotel in the city.
The Milpitas City Council voted unanimously Thursday to immediately send a letter to the county asking that it halt its plans to transform a 146-room Extended Stay America hotel at 1000 Hillview Court into 132 studio apartments for homeless people with supportive services in the building.
