For the first time since May, there’s a new Bay Area locale atop the local leaderboard of COVID-19 cases.

Santa Clara County recently reclaimed the unwanted title from Alameda County, which still accounts for the largest share of the region’s deaths from the virus. On Sunday, Santa Clara County reported 106 new cases of the virus to Alameda County’s 87, which padded its lead on the top spot: 21,840 cumulative cases vs. 21,708 in Alameda County.
