As it heads toward a public stock offering in the coming months, ride-sharing giant Uber reportedly is nearing a deal that will put $1 billion into its self-driving car efforts.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a group of financiers led by Japan’s SoftBank Vision Fund is in “late-stage talks” to deliver the investment, which could be finalized ahead of Uber’s upcoming IPO. The deal reportedly would give the SoftBank-led group a minority stake in Uber’s self-driving car business worth $5 billion to $10 billion.
