Twitter took a tumble Thursday, as it said it would soon do away with what has been one of the main gauges investors and Wall Street analysts have used to measure the social-media company’s business health.

Before the stock market opened, Twitter said that after the first quarter of this year it will no longer disclose the number of its monthly active users (MAU). That number has been declining, and giving some Twitter watchers a sense that Twitter fatigue may be settling in sending users away from the communications platform.
