Nvidia watched its shares plunge Monday after the graphics chipmaker slashed its fourth-quarter revenue outlook due to weakness in the Chinese market and a decline in demand for the use of its products in the cryptocurrency industry.

Before the stock market opened, Nvidia said it now expects to report fourth-quarter sales of $2.2 billion, down from a previous forecast of $2.7 billion. The Santa Clara-based graphics chipmaker said that it saw particular weakness in its data center business, and its gaming business as “deteriorating macroeconomic conditions, particularly in China, impacted consumer demand for Nvidia gaming (processor units.)”
