Arizona’s top school official looks like she wants to move some of the state’s science curriculum back about a hundred years by backing off the teaching of evolution. It’s a mistake.
The famous Scopes trial established that evolution could be taught in public schools. It took place in 1925, which is 93 years ago. Fast forward to now and Diane Douglas wants to replace instructional standards using the word evolution with the term “biological diversity” in one reference. In another, evolution would bereplaced with a phrase about genetic changes in successive generations.
