SPEARFISH — Learning science can be like a day a day at the park, or in the case of Spearfish Middle School seventh-graders, it was a day at Spearfish City Park Thursday.

“Science Day Camp actually started about 25 years ago, and it was a science camp,” Dan Holben, seventh-grade science teacher, said, explaining that when he taught fifth-grade, the school used to take two classes as at time to Ranch A near Beulah, Wyo., spending two days there to do science activities. Science professionals would come to present to the students, and the teachers would get parents to help and would cook all the meals for the students, with some chaperoning for the night as well.
