On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy. The astronauts on that historic flight were Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
This year is the 50th anniversary of that flight. As part of this year's World Science Festival in New York City, I attended a talk, "The Right Stuff: What it takes to Boldly Go," where Collins and astronauts Scott Kelly and Leland Melvin were among the speakers.
