Kyoto University researchers were disciplined for improper use of funds, including those used to build two large chimpanzee cages (green and silver) at the Primate Research Institute. The cages, which face an outdoor compound, are connected by a corridor so apes can move freely between them.
International researchers are rallying around renowned Kyoto University primatologist Tetsuro Matsuzawa, who was dismissed on 24 November for improper handling of funds for construction work at two state-of-the-art chimpanzee facilities.
